Capitol Hill Real Estate
Capitol Hill is a neighborhood in Calgary’s northwest quadrant. Though it was originally established in 1948, some of the buildings in the area date back even further, in some cases all the way back to 1910. Despite its being a more mature community, many of the older homes have been receiving renovations recently, and the neighborhood has undergone a transformation. With a great deal of re-development, more and more new families are coming to live in Capitol Hill and discovering the neighborhood’s unique charms.
One of the advantages of living in Capitol Hill is the community’s proximity to some of Calgary’s finest educational facilities including the University of Calgary, Mount Royal College and Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). For this reason the area is popular with students and those of collage age.
Capitol Hill is also in an excellent location for shopping and recreation. It is located between the North Hill Mall (to the south) and the Market Mall, two of the city’s premier shopping destinations. For those who want quick and easy access to downtown, the Lion’s Park LRT station provides can provide just that, opening up even more shopping and business opportunities.
To the north, the community is bounded by the Confederation Park, a 400-acre urban retreat that is perfect for those who value a physical and active lifestyle. Throughout the park there are picnic tables, cycle paths, toboggan runs, tennis courts and baseball diamonds. During the winter the park can be used for cross-country skiing. The area is so picturesque that many young couples like to take their wedding photos at various spots throughout the park.
Real estate in Capitol Hills is shaped differently from other northwest communities. In this area almost half of the buildings are condominiums or apartments, and the majority of these properties are available for rent. There are also numerous detached single family homes available. The average price of a home in the area is around $480,000 and if you are looking to own one of the condominiums, on average it will cost you $250,000.
Whenever you are moving to a new neighborhood, it’s important that you take your time and research the area so you can make an informed decision. If you’d like to know more about Capitol Hill real estate, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve done a lot of research on Capitol Hill real estate and we’d be happy to share what we know.
